BTW, it's probably worth noting that there are 4 serial number 
schemes for video device:

1) USB UniqueID-based (Philips USB cameras)

2) USB MAC address-based (Most other USB cameras, UID is VID+PID+MAC)

3) Firewire Webcam (UID is FireWire SN)

4) Firewire Industrial (UID is FireWire SN + "BA")

I've attempted not to do anything with FireWire at the moment, but 
there appears to be a problem with at least scheme 3)

I've done pretty extensive testing on scheme 2)

It looks like there may be a problem with scheme 1) -- I'm looking at that now.

For anyone with a problem, it would be worth knowing which of the 
above cases you have. Also let me know if you can receive a 4MB email 
enclosure as I may send out a few private driver updates to see if 
they fix your problem before doing a general update.
