Hi all,

Thanks Steve for your reply, I have downloaded and registered 1.1.2a47 and subscribed to the beta mailing list (obviously) as you suggested.
IOX driver seemed to install fine & camera was recognised no prob.

I am new to all this so please forgive me if I supply spurious information at first, it will take a short while to get the hang of firstly, what should be happening and secondly, what info is helpful to you.

To recap, I am running Leopard (10.5.2) on a Dual 1.42 GHz PowerPC G4 (2GB RAM). This will also run Tiger (10.4.11) from a different partition but I am trying to stick with the more up to date OS.

Originally, the only apps I had to handle the Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000 were:

iChat (4.0.2)
PhotoBooth (2.0.1 (72))

and they work but only with very limited camera functionality. The PhotoBooth effects do work though.

I note you do not list them as supported on the website. It will make sense then that I got the following error when trying to open the Camera Control:

(That’s PhotoBooth in the background)

So next, I downloaded VideoViewer which initially opened a window showing – IOX in the title bar which was encouraging and the camera came on & displayed. Then I tried to resize the window and it went blue. Thereafter there were lots of beachballs, several force quits & restarts. Desktop icons of hard drives took ages to appear on boot and so I deleted VideoViewer & uninstalled the IOX driver completely.

Bootup then returned to normal, iChat & PB working ok.

Then reinstalled the IOX driver,
To cut a long story short, have now had a few hours playing about. If things went pear-shaped, ultimately culminating in a slow startup with beachballs (had a few of those), I deleted the Video Viewer package including the prefs plist, used the uninstaller with 1.1.2a47 (thanks) and restarted, checking iChat & PhotoBooth still worked in their basic form.

Ultimately got to VV to work ok but trying to resize the window always crashed it nastily. VV preferences worked fine I achieved digital feedback in the audio settings which was a good sign! and the Video Source – Settings yielded an IOX window. Therein I could set Frame Rate to 30fps which worked – yeah!, zoom & other settings in that panel all working though somewhere I came across greyed out tabs either side of one saying ‘Image’ which said ‘Color’ and ‘Mechanics’ (I think).

Adjustments worked fine in fact it pretty much did what it said on the tin but couldn’t see anywhere in the IOX settings to change resolution and maybe that’s not done there anyway and as I said, changing window sizes is a problem here with VV.

The IOX Camera Control itself worked fine from the dock doing much the same as from within VV prefs but will come back to that ...

Generally speaking, VV seems a bit ‘delicate’ and unpredictable here at the mo (no offence intended). It doesn’t like opening after the m/c has slept and I worry that I’ll do something too quickly and get beachballed so have deleted and uninstalled VV & IOX and will head off to look at BTV with a clean install of IOX.

I should have said before but all this is with a USB 1 connection through an Asante 7 port hub. I know ... It’s not ideal but don’t want to change the rat’s nest significantly at this stage to free up a machine port for the camera. Anyway, I really should have a USB 2.0 feed and since having just also acquired an interest in the Elgato eyetv 250 plus, it started me thinking about connectivity matters.

This is apparently an interesting business. Seems I can’t find a reliable Firewire 800 to USB 2.0 converter/adapter (please don’t laugh too loud if that’s a stupid idea :)) Some retailers think there are hubs that will do it & Apple IM suggested an unpowered Belkin hub – hmmmmm (think we’ll need power ...) so have a nice Apple techie from Greece getting back to me Monday (he’s had a few queries like this).

Meantime, am wondering whether the Sonnet Allegro USB 2.0 will do (says G3 and up) since the Allegro Express needs a G5 apparently. Any thoughts ? Other cards etc ...

Bye for now, off to clean install & get BTV, will report back later, hope this was helpful. Just say if there is some kind of ‘format’ for these kind of mails ...
