IOXperts List Server Hacked, Video Beta Pre-Announcement

Hi Everyone,

I'm sending this message directly from my personal address because it 
appears that our list server (mailman.ioxperts.com) was compromised 
by spammers sometime in the last 2 days and it was sending spam to 
the lists for about 8 hours this morning -- We've disconnected the 
machine from the Internet until we can figure out what's wrong.

We are probably going to move the lists to a new server running Mac 
OS X Server and change the name to lists.ioxperts.com so that it's 
not deluged with spam going to the old address.

I apologize for any spam you may have received as a result of this.

I'd also be interested in people's opinions on moving to Google 
Groups as Bare Bones Software has done with their beta program and 
let someone else handle the system administration.

The down side of this is it would require everyone to have a Google 
account -- I'm not sure if this a problem -- please let me know 
off-line and I'll summarize for the list.

On the technical side, for anyone not on the video-beta-discuss list, 
we're very close to releasing a public beta of version 1.2 of our 
video drivers which will include full Intel and Leopard support as 
well as a number of new features.

(Note that this release requires a 1.2 serial number and will expire 9/1/08)

We don't have the Industrial Camer Driver page updated but you can 
download it from the same directory as the Webcam driver.

I was going to hold the announcement to this list until we were 
absolutely sure it's stable (which should be in a day or two), but I 
wanted to give you a "heads-up" as long as I have to send a message 
out anyway -- I want to keep the announce list as low-traffic as 
possible.

Until we get the server fixed, please feel free to reply to directly 
-- I'll send a message out through the new server once it's on line. 
(Please note that the name of the machine may change)

P.S. If any of you have any of the spam sent, I'd appreciate 
receiving the full headers from a few messages to diagnose how the 
server was compromised. Also, if you belong to more than one of our 
mailing lists, I'd appreciate knowing what other lists were affected 
(besides video-beta-discuss and video-beta-announce).
