quickcam for notebooks pro

Was using a12 perfectly until it expired recently, and now noticing that a16
recognizes my cam in the camera identifier utility, but actual apps like
ichat and amsn are not recognizing that there is a camera at all...amsn
throws an apple error, ichat just greys out video option...just curious if
this is a common new prb or whether it's isolated to my machine...using 10.4 
newest incarnation, with a brand new logitech quickcam for notebooks pro...
