QuickCam Pro 5000 question update

Earlier I wrote:

I thought this might be connected to a recent install of aMSN, but  
it's happening on a normal System now.

I suspect it has to do with the number of USB peripherals hanging on  
my USB hub on startup.

Is there any way to make the driver 'stronger'?
