Problems with Orinoco silver

Hi!

Normally I lurk on a list for a while to get a feel for it before
posting, but I'm in a bit of a pinch. If one more person trips
over my network cable in the office, I'm likely going to be forced to
use a PC laptop. I've fought too long and hard to keep my Mac to let
that happen!

I have sent 2 emails to support at ioxperts.com with no replies yet. The
following is the content of those emails, in the hopes of help...

The first email:

> Within a few hours of registering the driver, I put my Lombard to
> sleep with the card installed and active. When I woke it up, the card
> refused to connect to my network and I have not been able to use it
> since.

> Laptop: 1999 Powerbook G3 Bronze keyboard (Lombard) running OS X.3.2
> Card: Lucent Technologies Orinoco Silver with firmware versions PRI
> 4.4.1, STA 8.10.1
> Driver version 1.0.3
>
> When inserted, the "Power" and "Activity" LED's on the card will flash
> in unison a few times before going dark. The PC Card icon appears in
> the menu bar. Checking the preference pane, the status tab reports
> network: <Searching for Network...>. Both LED's will flash every
> minute or so.

> I have tested the card in my Newton and it no-longer functions there
> either. I have an SMC 2632W card and have been able to use it in my
> Lombard and Newton and verified that all is well with my settings and
> network.

> suggestions or utilities that might help?

And the second:

> As a follow-up:
>
> This afternoon I installed the Orinoco card and the power LED came on
> and stayed on. When I checked the preference pane it was reporting
> that the network was out of range. I checked all the settings and
> everything was correct so I clicked Apply Now. The power LED on the
> card immediately went out and the pref pane is once again reporting
> <Searching for Network...>

Has anyone encountered anything like this before? I'm wondering if the
firmware on the card may have been corrupted. I tried running a
windows upgrade utility using virtual pc, but it doesn't recognize that
the card is present. I hate to do it, but I'm going to ask one of my
pc using coworkers to flash the card for me tomorrow unless someone has
any other thoughts...

Thanks for your input!
Dave
